European Student Budget Planner
Plan your realistic living expenses and upfront capital requirements as an international student in Europe. This tool separates monthly living cash from tuition payments and deliberately assumes zero part-time job income.
European Student Budget Planner
Plan your genuine monthly costs and upfront liquidity needs without speculative income assumptions.
Monthly Living Spending
Annual University Tuition & Secured Funding
Upfront Cash Payments (Before Arrival)
Payments due before starting classes or collecting residence permits.
1. No assumed job income: This calculation deliberately assumes zero part-time job income. Finding a student job takes time and cannot be relied upon to pay basic living or tuition commitments upon arrival.
2. Not an immigration sufficiency verdict: National migration authorities enforce statutory minimum fund requirements (e.g. Migri requires €800/month or €9,600 in a bank account for Finland; Germany requires a blocked account [Sperrkonto] of €992/month or €11,904/year [2024/2025]). This calculator provides an arithmetic planning estimate and does not certify visa eligibility.
Student Budget Formulas & Principles
1. Monthly Planning Average:
Monthly Average = Monthly Living + [(Tuition − Funding) / Study Months]
Amortizes net annual university tuition across the academic year to show genuine burn rate.
2. Upfront Capital Needed Prior to Arrival:
Upfront Cash = Initial Tuition + Housing Deposit + Setup + (Living × Buffer Months)
Must be liquid and accessible in your bank account before applying for your student visa.
European migration authorities legally require applicants to prove fixed minimum personal funds before granting a student residence permit:
- Finland (Migri): Requires proof of at least €800 per month (€9,600 per year) in personal bank deposits.
- Germany: Requires a blocked account (Sperrkonto) containing at least €992 per month (€11,904 per year for 2024/2025).
- Netherlands (IND): Mandates standard study maintenance norm (approx. €1,000+ per month excluding tuition).
- Ireland: Requires proof of €10,000 in immediate funds for non-visa required students or designated pre-clearance sums.
